Fergie said her “magical” love story with Prince Andrew left her “full of belief that anything is possible.”

Sarah Ferguson compared herself to Cinderella while discussing her memories of her wedding day on her weekly podcast.

Fergie suggested her romance with Prince Andrew, and her background as a “farmer’s daughter,” was a direct parallel with the iconic fairytale.

Touching on the topic of self-belief with Tea Talks co-host Sarah Thomson, the Duchess of York insisted the momentous day she joined the Royal Family left her thinking “anything is possible.”

She said the realisation of the similarities between her story and Cinderella’s came after re-watching the movie with daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie recently.

Fergie has been recovering at home in Windsor with ex-husband Andrew and their daughters’ families after undergoing a mastectomy in June.

Recounting the day of her wedding, Fergie said: “1986, July 23, the nation stopped and took a holiday for the farmer’s daughter going up the aisle with an extraordinary tiara given by the Queen.

“It’s an extraordinary story of Cinderella, really, isn’t it? Although I wasn’t milking cows, exactly, I was a farmer’s daughter… my father was still farming.”

The Duchess paid tribute to her family’s background by walking down the aisle donning a flower crown which she exchanged for the York Tiara after signing the register.

She described the experience as “one of the greatest days of my life,” as she watched hundreds line the streets and chanting “Fergie! Fergie!” as she headed to Westminster Abbey.

Fergie continued: “I went to Westminster Abbey, and there at the end of the aisle was my handsome prince in his full naval uniform. The nation stopped.

Approximately 19 million people tuned in to watch the Duke and Duchess of York tie the knot in July 1986.

She added: “Before that, I was working in an art gallery… it took me 45 minutes to get to work, and if the buses were late or the bicycle broke, my boss would say, ‘I suppose it’s the bicycle’s fault again, I suppose it’s the buses’ fault again.’

“And there I was walking up the aisle of Westminster Abbey on July 23, 1986, so I think that’s the best example of belief.”

“I was watching Cinderella with the girls again the other day, and I did that! I had that moment.”

The Duke and Duchess of York first met as children but were reintroduced at Royal Ascot in 1985 after Princess Diana requested Sarah be invited to the event.

They married the following year but Andrew’s career as a naval officer meant the couple spent very little time together, with Fergie later claiming they were only together 40 days a year in the first five years of their marriage.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, she admitted to spending the majority of her first pregnancy alone and struggling with his absence and lack of support from Buckingham Palace.”

She said: “Andrew got 10 days of shore leave, and when he left and I cried, they all said: ‘Grow up and get a grip.'”

While Fergie and Andrew remain very close, they called it quits on their wedding after six years and officially divorced in 1996.

The couple however

The couple however have maintained a strong friendship and raised Beatrice and Eugenie together.
