They told the Daily Mail: “Anything to do with his grandchildren will be decided once they [Harry and Meghan] stop lobbing salvos into the palace.
“No decision or pronouncement can be made on that issue until the King is confident that the decision he makes can withstand any activity on either side in the long term — and they are not in that place right now.
“Monarchs move with great caution and reflection and there is no obligation to rush. The King will, of course, need to make a decision at some point — but the Sussexes’ activity is still so changeable that it’s just hard to take any firm decisions at this stage.”
It comes after the release of Harry and Meghan’s bombshell Netflix show, while the Duke’s tell-all memoir is out in the new year.

Prince Louis almost missed out on royal title at birth
Prince Louis could have not been given his HRH title when he was born without his great-grandmother’s help, it has been reported.
Being the monarch’s great-grandson, the four-year-old was not automatically allowed to get the coveted royal title.
But the late Queen Elizabeth II stepped in to overturn a century-old rule, and just like that, her great-grandson became prince.
The rule dates back to 1917 when King George V issued new guidelines on which royals could have titles and who were too far down the line of succession to qualify.

Prince William ‘changed New Year plans’ leaving Kate ‘in tears’
A royal analyst claims Kate Middleton was “left in tears” after Prince William abruptly “changed their New Year plans”.
The drama between the pair occurred five years before they wed and became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and later the Prince and Princess of Wales once King Charles succeeded to the throne.
Katie Nicholl, a royal analyst, asserted in her 2011 book, The Making of a Royal Romance, that Prince William unexpectedly cancelled his New Year’s plans with Kate when they were just starting to date, leaving her heartbroken.
Meghan and Harry ‘killed off any respect’ with Netflix show
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been criticised by a royal commentator who has claimed the couple “killed off any respect” the public once held for them.
Angela Levin told TalkTV: “You get to a sort of mature age, your late teens, you start to see the impression you give.
“The fact that they couldn’t see they were killing any respect anyone could have for them with this six hours of boredom – which I watched all the way through – surely [they] realise this is ridiculous.”
Archie and Lilibet to be handed ‘unique document’ by Harry
Prince Harry’s forthcoming memoir Spare will be a “unique document” for his children Archie and Lilibet, according to an expert.
The CEO of memoir-writing service StoryTerrace, Rutger Bruining, told Express.co.uk: “They are obviously quite young but I think the memoir will be a very interesting document for them, as he won’t be able to change the narrative after the book comes out.
“So the fact that he is doing his memoir quite young will show an evolution of his thinking and personal development.”
Mr Bruining added: “I don’t think there is any risk of this book bringing him apart from his children as I suspect he is just providing them with more information.
“It will be a very unique document for them to have, even if it’s a public document.”
