Royals ‘will regret’ bid to ‘humiliate’ Prince Harry while he mourned his grandmother

The Duke, like his uncle, Prince Andrew, was not permitted to wear military uniform during most of the official period of Royal Mourning.

Both Dukes were, however, permitted to wear military uniform while holding vigil for the Queen’s lying-in-state.

Reports suggest Prince Andrew was ordered by the King himself to wear uniform for the vigil as a special privilege.

It could be presumed from this that the same was the case for Prince Harry.

But writer Jenni Murray said this was not enough, and that Harry should have been granted more special privileges.

She wrote in the Mail: “Charles is King. Within royal protocol, he has all the power.

“He could have allowed Harry, like his brother William, to wear the uniform of the regiment for which he fought so proudly during two terms of military service in Afghanistan.”

Prince Harry retired from the British Army in 2015 following a decade of service.

In a statement nominally intended to take attention away from the Prince’s clothing, but which commentators claimed to have drew more attention towards it, a spokesman for Harry said: “Prince Harry The Duke of Sussex will wear a morning suit throughout events honouring his grandmother.

“His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

She added: “If Charles wants to see reconciliation between his two boys, he must welcome the prodigal son fully into the family and treat them both as equals.”

The commentator complained that the prince was not invited (or, according to some reports, was invited and then un-invited) to a lavish reception at Buckingham Palace.

The reason for this again was that Prince Harry, having stepped back from senior royal duties and moved to the US, is no longer a working royal.

Prince Andrew was also not present at this event.

Commentators are now questioning the possibility of a full reconciliation between Harry and the rest of the Royal Family, with the route being reportedly murky.
