‘Uphill battle’ Harry slams ‘immense’ differences between US and UK

PRINCE HARRY has hit out at the “immense” cultural differences between the UK and the US in regard to being open about mental health.

Speaking on the Masters of Scale podcast, the Duke of Sussex slammed the British reticence to talk about needing mental health support and praised the Californian mentality. Reid Hoffman, the podcast host, spoke of the “uphill battle” Prince Harry previously faced when trying to speak about and raise awareness of mental health in the UK. To which the Duke replied: “You’re absolutely right, Reid, about the cultural differences, they’re immense.” He spoke about his desire to turn the conversation from mental health, “which is so much focused around mental illness” and change it to a conversation around “mental fitness”. He continued: “Mental fitness, as far as I understand it, is more a case of get on the front foot. What can you do to be proactive, to prevent the situation from happening?”

The Duke of Sussex said: “You’re absolutely right, Reid, about the cultural differences, they’re immense.

“You talk about it here in California, ‘I’ll get my therapist to call your therapist.’

“Whereas in the UK it’s like, ‘Therapist? What therapist? Whose therapist? I don’t have a therapist.

“‘No, I definitely don’t, I’ve never spoken to a therapist.'”
