Meghan and Harry seek ‘to build bridges’ with Royals with ‘olive branch’ baby name

MEGHAN MARKLE and Prince Harry named their baby Lilibet after Queen Elizabeth II – a sign the Sussex royals “want to build bridges”, an expert believes.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor on Friday at 11.40am at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California. Harry has recently made a series of comments about his upbringing which have been perceived in a somewhat negative light by commentators.

But royal expert Duncan Larcombe thinks their newborn daughter’s name – Lilibet Diana – is a peace sign.

The Royal Family must be delighted with her name, even if they did not publicly say so, Mr Larcombe adds.

He said: “It’s a lovely gesture on the part of Harry and Meghan.

“The baby name is the first sign of an olive branch to the royal family. It’s a sign they want to build bridges.

“There has never been any suggestion of a fallout with the Queen and Harry.”

Speaking to OK! Magazine, Mr Larcombe said Harry’s “war is with the institution, not his grandmother”.

He added: “The Queen is hugely proud of the man Harry has become and she will be chuffed to bits over the name choice.

“She will see this as a loving gesture from her grandson.

“And I believe it’s Harry’s way of showing that he wants to honour one of the most important women in his life.”

Russell Myers, royal editor of the Daily Mirror, suggested Lilibet’s name was a “surprise” to Her Majesty.

He said: “I am told Harry had said to the Queen he may name a daughter after her and so he didn’t really ask for permission as such but it was a nice surprise.

“This seems to be a tremendous gesture.”

However, Angela Levin told ITV’s Good Morning Britain that Her Majesty will be upset, adding: “I think she’s desperately unhappy because they were desperately rude about her.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea. I think it’s quite rude to her Majesty the Queen.”

They added: “She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe.

“Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

Buckingham Palace also welcomed the news, saying: “The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
