VANCOUVER–On Tuesday, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, received a royal visit from a women’s shelter in Vancouver as she and her husband Prince Harry planned their part-time move into Canada.
The Downtown Eastside Women’s Center shared a photo of Meghan’s Facebook visit, saying shelter staff spoke to her about issues that affect women in the neighborhood.
The Justice for Girls group in the city also posted photos on Meghan’s Twitter visiting the organization on Tuesday, saying she was discussing climate change and Indigenous Peoples ‘ rights.
Last week Meghan and Harry announced plans to step down from their duties as senior Royal Family members and become financially independent.
The step reportedly irritated unconsulted senior royals, sparking a meeting with the Queen, her eldest son and heir to Prince Charles, and Prince William, who would succeed his father to the throne, along with Harry.
The Queen ultimately said she supported the couple’s decision to split their time between Canada and the UK.
British Columbia Premier John Horgan, meanwhile, has said he’s already had conversations with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about the couple possibly moving to the province.
The Vancouver trips are a return to form for both Harry and Meghan, who has been heavily involved both individually and together in charitable work.
In 2016, Meghan has named Global World Vision Ambassador-a role she kept into 2017.
She’s focused on charities that promote women’s empowerment and gender equality after marrying in the Royal Family.
And Harry, as Lady Diana Spencer did in 1997, continued his late mother’s work with the Halo Trust, traveling with them to Angola last year.
His focus areas include “environmental well-being” and social issues including mental health and veterans care.
The official website of the couple says they plan to develop this year together with a charitable organization.
